Initiated by Tian Yuan, a bilingual poet and translator living in Japan, the film was adapted by Japanese screenwriter Tomikawa Motofumi, directed by Japanese director Hyugaji Taro, and costarred by Chinese and Japanese actors such as Chinese national first-level actor Wei Zi, Chen Jin, and Kitahara Rie. As a film commemorating the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations, it was released in Japan and China in early 2022. The film adaptation of Requiem breaks through the traditional mode of literature translation and dissemination, and provides a new paradigm and method for the overseas rebirth of Chinese stories.
