Often called a heterodox and critical thinker who praised the Han\nDynasty while considerable conventional research shows that in the Glorification of Han,\nWang Chong continually criticized the common people as a form of flattery towards to the\nHan Dynasty as well as in order to protect his own personal safety. In other words, it is\nnegatively thought that Wang Chong’s glorification of the Han was the limits of his critical\nphilosophy containing inconsistent arguments. On the contrary, it can be thought that Wang\nChong’s glorification of the Han is a critique triggered by the Confucianists’ principles of\n“revere the classics and renounce the modern.” Their principles of “revere the classics and\nrenounce the modern” was a result of their academic attitude of continual reading and\nmemorizing of the classic Confucian writings. Literary style is not simply reciting memorized\ntext but something which is created, written and carrying out moral influence. Writing the\nglorification of Han is a moral influence. Now, it is not possible for Wang Chong to come into\ncontact with the moral influence of the sages. If possible, it would be ideal to be close to the\nEmperor, be in direct contact with the benevolent rule and write the glorification of Han.\nThat, as a Confucianist, is the duty of a minister. If that is not possible, it would at least be\nideal to write Lunheng and within that, the glorification of Han, and as a result of correcting\nany falsehoods within the world, lead the world on a more virtuous path.
