Acquiring English language fluency is\nmore than the study of grammar, words, and sentences, but also involves the practice and\nthe perception of the emotional coloring of the utterances with correct pronunciation that\ndoes not interfere with communication. Pronunciation strategies is an important element of\nEnglish fluency and can help mitigate miscommunication. Although making mistakes in this\narea is very common, learners can still learn to avoid errors that can interfere with\ncommunication when classroom instruction explicitly provides learners with the tools to\novercome them. Utilizing instructional methods that focused on word stress, sentence stress,\nand intonation, first-and-second-year university students at a private university learned to\nrecognize, practice, and perform correct English word stress, sentence stress, and intonation\npatterns using a novel approach to pronunciation instruction the researcher calls the rise-up\nand flow-down method. The results of the classroom practice over a semester indicate that\nthere is a direct perceived improvement in the students’ ability to use English word stress,\nsentence stress, and intonation that may lead to an overall improvement in English fluency.\nThe study hopes to add a valuable and practical classroom practice method to be used for the\ninstruction of pronunciation.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15066/00000632","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"北陸大学"}]},"item_10002_rights_15":{"attribute_name":"権利","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_rights":"〔査読有り〕の研究ノート"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"2186-3989","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"David A. , Isaacs"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"694","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"David A. , Isaacs","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"695","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2022-03-31"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"commu04.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"778.3 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"commu04","url":"https://hokuriku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/677/files/commu04.pdf"},"version_id":"da6e0940-fa49-41ec-ba30-b64b7774d1b0"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"word stress","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"sentence stress","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"intonation; learners","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"fluency","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"rise-up and flow-down","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Rise-Up and Flow-Down: Teaching Pronunciation","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Rise-Up and Flow-Down: Teaching Pronunciation"},{"subitem_title":"Rise-Up and Flow-Down: Teaching Pronunciation","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"18","path":["168"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2022-03-31"},"publish_date":"2022-03-31","publish_status":"0","recid":"677","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Rise-Up and Flow-Down: Teaching Pronunciation"],"weko_creator_id":"18","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-06-19T08:31:05.558401+00:00"}
