In the 1st period (from ancient to Edo Period), Chinese icehouse culture (ice collection / ice storage technology /utilization of the stored ice) was introduced to Japan through migrants, and the upper classes in the aristocratic and samurai society only were able to use the stored ice and snow. In the 2nd period (from Meiji to early Showa period), the Western ice culture by Boston ice imported was conveyed, and the supply and consumption of stored snow and ice was booming to mass society too. The present age, in which the stored snow and ice is re-evaluated and tried to be used as one of the renewable energy resources, can be positioned in the 3rd period.
