内容記述 | This paper aims to analyze the usage of classical Japanese auxiliary verb “bekammeri”, which is a compound word composed of two auxilialy “beshi” and “meri”, in the Tale of Genji. In this novel, we find there are some differences in the types of verbs preceding “bekammeri” between the parts of narration and conversation. This also suggests the differences of syntaxical function of “bekammeri” in both cases. This paper focusing on the exemples in conversational sentences, in terms of the type of events described by verb and “bekammeri”, we classify “bekammeri” in five categories. Through the analysis of each categories,we find that the exemples of “bekammeri”, describing events that are already realized and non speaker-concerning (Hitogoto), are dominant in the novel. Furthermore, we attempt to analyze the co-occurrence of “bekammeri” and “beshi” or “meri”. The results show the complementary relationships between both auxiliary verbs. |
