| 内容記述 | The aim of this article is to consider the use of Japanese personal pronouns in TV news programs, by comparing them with newspapers. Todoroki (1998) shows that there are differences between personal pronouns in Japanese and those in English. As one of the characteristics of Japanese personal pronouns, they are rarely used in TV news programs or newspapers. Including this linguistic phenomenon, Todoroki (1998) compares personal pronouns in Japanese with those in English, which provides an analysis of personal pronouns based on the theory of territory of information developed in Kamio (1990) and proposes a functional constraint on the occurrence of personal pronouns in Japanese. On the other hand, there are some profound changes in the language used in Japanese TV news programs, which are not found in Japanese newspapers. For example, elements which has an important role of identifying the main point of the news at hand are often moved rightward in those programs (Todoroki 2015). Therefore, the language used in TV news programs shows different characteristics from that in newspapers. This article considers whether or not there is a change in the use of personal pronouns in Japanese TV news programs and newspapers. Although the language used in TV news programs shows a variety of different characteristics from newspapers, it has not been changed concerning personal pronouns. They are still rare both in TV news programs and in newspapers. This article clarifies the reason personal pronouns hardly appear in TV news programs and they remain similar to newspapers in this point despite the fact that the language used in them shows a lot of differences from that in newspapers. |
